Allowing compensation from the crime victims compensation board to be awarded for criminally injurious conduct, and increasing the amount that can be transferred from the crime victims compensation fund to the crime victims assistance fund in each fiscal year.

Chairwoman Warren opened the hearing on HB2781

Jason Thompson provided an overview of the bill and stood for questions (Attachment 27)

Kristen Czugala, Division Chief, Crime Victims Services, Office Attorney General Office supports the bill for changes to the current crime victims compensation statutes that will provide menaingful access to victims of crime to financial assistance.  (Attachment 28)

Richard Samaniego, Chair Crime Victims Services Office of Attorney General, supports this bill.  He stated this bill is consistent with the Board's intent to broaden assistance for victims of violent crimes.(Attachment 29)

Written-only testimony in support of HB2781 was submitted by Michelle McCormick, Executive Director, Kansas Coalition Against Sexual & Domestic Violence (Attachment 30)
