The Chairman asked the Revisor to review the bill for the Committee.(Attachment 1)
Chairman Ellis called for proponents of this bill. Representative Goddard deferred to Mike Kelly. (Attachment 2) According to Mr. Kelly, the updated definition of the armed forces to include the United States Space Force was requested of all state legislatures by the Office of the Secretary of Defense. He included in his testimony a letter from Michelle Richart, of the U.S. Department of Defense clarifying the definition of armed forces and updating the definition thereof to include the space force. He stood for questions.
Representative Goddard followed up with comments that this goes beyond just including "space force" it aligns language with other states so that everyone is using the same terminology.
Representative Dodson moved to suspend the rules, seconded by Representative Weigel, motion carried. Back on the bill. Representative Goddard moved to pass HB2829 favorably from committee, seconded by Representative Thompson, motion carried.
Chairman Ellis closed the hearing on HB2829 and opened the hearing on HB2830.
