Short Title

Increasing criminal penalties for a driver who leaves the scene of a vehicular accident when the accident results in the death of any person or more than one person, if the driver knew or reasonably should have known that such accident resulted in injury or death.

Chairwoman Warren opened the hearing on HB2665.

Jason Thompson, Revisor's Office provided an overview of the bill and stood for questions. (Attachment 1)

Chief Darrell Atteberry, Bel Aire Police Department, on behalf of Kansas Association of Chiefs of Police; Kansas Sheriffs Association; Kansas Peace Officers Association, provided testimony in support of the bill.  He states the associations feels this bill will address what seems like an increasing problem of drivers fleeing the scene of serious and often deadly vehicular crashes. (Attachment 2)

Jill Ward, Private Citizen, provided her personal story as testimony in support of the bill.  She asks for the committee's support  (Attachment 3)

Written only in support of HB2665 was submitted by Bethany Fields, Kansas County and District Attorney Association (Attachment 4)

There being no further conferees, Chairwoman Warren closed the hearing on HB2665.
