Minutes for HB2449 - Committee on Appropriations

Short Title

Providing that all members of statutory boards or commissions who are authorized by statute to receive compensation shall receive the amount of per diem compensation paid to legislators.

Minutes Content for Tue, Mar 14, 2023

Chairperson Waymaster opened the hearing on HB2449.

Revisor Jill Wolters provided information about HB2449. This bill makes members, attending a board or commission meeting, receive per diem rates equal to legislators. (Attachment 10)

Revisor Wolters stood for questions. Revisor Wolters verified the Board of Tax Appeals was not included in this bill as they are a fully salaried board. She also verified that if a bill to increase legislative pay was passed, the legislature would need to determine their intent on the amount of individuals serving on boards and commissions.

Chairperson Waymaster informed committee members that this was a discussion item on the State Employee and Board Member Compensation special interim committee, in trying to equalize the amount paid per diem to individuals serving on boards and commissions.

There was no proponent or opponent testimony.

Neutral testimony in written only:

  • Susan Gile, Executive Director, Kansas State Board of Healing Arts (Attachment 11)

Chairperson Waymaster closed the public hearing on HB2449.
