SESSION OF 2002

SUPPLEMENTAL NOTE ON HOUSE BILL NO. 2708

As Recommended by House Committee on

Local Government

Brief*

HB 2708 amends the Johnson County Park and Recreation District law dealing with bond issues and elections on the question of land acquisition. The bill deletes the requirement that the ballot question describe the real estate to be acquired and provides instead the proposition shall specify the purpose for which the bonds are to be issued and the school district within which any real estate proposed to be acquired is located.

Background

The bill was supported by representatives of the Johnson County Park and Recreation District. The change brings the park district statutes more in line with the requirements of school districts and other local units' land acquisition practices. Stating the precise location of the land in the election proposition was said to drive up land acquisition costs and make acquisition more time consuming.

The bill has no fiscal impact.
