Brief

       HB 2629 provides that the Department of Administration shall require fingerprinting, as a condition of employment, for those individuals who have unescorted physical access to the data center, telecommunications facilities, and other security sensitive areas as designated by the Secretary of Administration. The fingerprints will be submitted to the Kansas Bureau of Investigation and the Federal Bureau of Investigation to verify the identity of such individuals and to obtain records of criminal arrests and convictions.

Background

       Support for the bill was expressed by the Director of the Division of Information Systems and Communications, Department of Administration.

       The fiscal note indicates the cost for FY 2003 will be $4,500. Since the bill would become effective upon publication in the Kansas Register, the cost estimate for the remainder of the current fiscal year is approximately $780.
