Brief Footnote


       SB 383 amends the Kansas Interlocal Cooperation Act to specifically permit any public agency to enter into agreements with Native American Indian tribes for joint or cooperative actions. Agreements are subject to the procedures and limits of the Interlocal Cooperation Act. A further clarification is made that gaming compacts are excluded from coverage.



Background


       The bill was recommended by the 2001 Joint Committee on State Tribal Relations. The bill was supported by a representative of the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation.


       The bill has no fiscal impact.
