SB 216 would amend KSA 2000 Supp. 12-189 to authorize a local sales tax rate of 0.10 percent for class A, B, and C cities.
Background
Such cities currently have rate authority in quarter-percent increments.
The bill was supported by the City of Ottawa and Representative Tanner. A representative of the City indicated that the city hoped to put a 0.10 percent increase proposal on the April ballot earmarked for a new wastewater treatment plan. Ottawa currently levies a tax at the 0.50 percent rate.
