SB 47 removes the clerk of the district court as one of the persons who considers objections to nominations for county, township, city, and school officers, and replaces that person with an elected official whose position is not involved in the controversy.

Background

A representative of the Kansas Association of District Court Clerks and Administrators testified in support of the bill. She said the reason for removal of the clerk of the district court is that it is a ministerial position, not an elected position anymore, and that person may not be a resident of the county where the election results may be contested.

The fiscal note from the Division of the Budget indicated that passage of SB 47 would have no fiscal impact on state revenues.
