HB 2601 would increase the membership on the Kansas Court of Appeals from the current 10 to 14.





Background



Support for the bill was expressed by the Chief Judge of the Court of Appeals and the conferees representing the Kansas Bar Association and the Kansas Trial Lawyers Association.



The bill was recommended by the 1999 interim Special Committee on Judiciary as a result of a study of the Kansas Citizens Justice Initiative.



The fiscal note indicates that the addition of four appellate court judge positions would increase State General Fund expenditures by $354,086 per position for a total of $1,416,344.
