SUPPLEMENTAL NOTE ON SENATE BILL NO. 375

Brief (1)



SB 375 amends KSA 1999 Supp. 74-9002 to create staggered terms for the African-American Advisory Commission. The bill ends the terms of members appointed before July 1, 2000 on June 30, 2000. Members appointed in calendar year 2000 would serve three-year terms if appointed by the President or Minority Leader of the Senate; two-year terms if appointed by the Speaker or Minority Leader of the House; and a one-year term if appointed by the Governor. Thereafter, all members would be appointed for three-year terms.





Background



Senator Jones, the sponsor of the bill, testified in support of SB 375. Current members of the Commission were appointed to three-year terms in 1997 which will expire in calendar year 2000.



The Division of the Budget states that the bill has no fiscal impact.
