SESSION OF 1999

SUPPLEMENTAL NOTE ON

HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 6006

As Recommended by House Committee on

Federal and State Affairs

Brief(1)

H.R. 6006 is a resolution memorializing the United States Congress to revise certain laws which prohibit a disabled military veteran from receiving both full retirement pay and disability compensation benefits.

Background

H.R. 6006 was introduced by Representative Dreher. Proponents included the State Adjutant for the American Legion; the Enlisted Association of the National Guard of Kansas; and a retired individual. Proponents stated that it was unfair for military veterans to have to waive an amount of retirement pay equal to the amount of disability benefits while federal civilian employees are not subject to such a deduction.

There were no opponents. The resolution has no fiscal impact.
