SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 1612

Brief(1)



S.C.R. 1612 requests the Secretary of Health and Environment to review the effects of obesity in children and adults on health conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, and stroke and health complications in children. The resolution also urges the Secretary to report on current state programs designed to improve awareness of the problem of obesity and its treatment and to make recommendations to the Legislature for additions and improvements to state programs prior to the convening of the 2000 Session of the Legislature.





Background



In the Senate Committee hearing on S.C.R. 1612, the resolution was supported by the sponsor, a representative of the American Heart Association, a surgeon from Wichita who is affiliated with the University of Kansas School of Medicine-Wichita, and a representative of the University of Kansas Health Studies. No one opposed the resolution.
