SUPPLEMENTAL NOTE ON SENATE BILL NO. 57

Brief(1)



The bill would designate October 14 as "Dwight D. Eisenhower Day" in Kansas. State and local officials would be requested to display the U.S. flag on all public buildings and people are invited to observe with appropriate ceremonies in schools and other suitable places to commemorate the life of President Eisenhower.





Background



Introduction of the bill was requested by Senator Vidricksen. Proponents of the bill at the hearing before the Senate Committee on Federal and State Affairs included: John Neal, Chairperson of the Eisenhower Commission; Lynda Scheele, Executive Director of the Eisenhower Foundation; Gary Slimmer, Assistant Adjutant, Kansas American Legion; and Ramon Powers, Executive Director of the Kansas Historical Society.



The Division of the Budget's fiscal note indicated that the bill would have no fiscal impact on the state.
