SESSION OF 1998

SUPPLEMENTAL NOTE ON SENATE BILL NO. 543

As Amended by Senate Committee on

Assessment and Taxation

Brief(1)

S.B. 543 would amend K.S.A. 79-1437f to authorize counties to include on property valuation notices comparable sales figures of other residential real property utilized in the determination of value and the addresses (or parcel identification numbers if addresses are unknown) of such property.

Background

Proponents, including the Kansas County Appraisers Association and Paul Welcome, Johnson County Appraiser, said that if certain limited comparable sales information could be provided on valuation notices, counties could save thousands of dollars in subsequent mailing and labor costs associated with providing more complete comparable sales information to taxpayers contemplating appeals.

The bill would not affect State General Fund receipts.
