SESSION OF 1998

SUPPLEMENTAL NOTE ON SENATE BILL NO. 505

As Recommended by Senate Committee on

Agriculture

Brief(1)

S.B. 505 would repeal the current section of law that sunsets the Agriculture Products Development Division of the Department of Commerce and Housing.

Background

The proponent of the bill was a representative of the Kansas Farm Bureau. Opponents to the bill included three individuals who expressed concern about the state's efforts to promote agriculture products since the Agriculture Products Development Division was created and took over many of the efforts of the former Marketing Division of the Department of Agriculture. The Director of the Agriculture Products Development Division appeared before the Committee to answer questions from members.

The fiscal note indicates that the bill would have no fiscal impact.
