SESSION OF 1998

SUPPLEMENTAL NOTE ON SENATE BILL NO. 411

As Amended by Senate Committee on
Financial Institutions and Insurance

Brief(1)

S.B. 411 would amend the Kansas Utilization Review Organization Act by striking language pertaining to the Kansas City Private Review Group. Adherence to the guidelines of the Group by other review organizations exempted those utilization review organizations from licensure by the state. (Since the Kansas City Private Review Group no longer exists, references to it and its guidelines are being deleted from the statute.)

As amended, the bill also would update the name of the national utilization review organization recognized in the statute from the Utilization Review Accreditation Commission to the American Accreditation Health Care Commission.

Background

S.B. 411, as amended, was recommended by the Insurance Commissioner. The changes enacted by the bill are technical and, according to the Division of the Budget, passage of the bill would have no fiscal effect.
