 The House met pursuant to adjournment with Speaker pro tem Mays in the chair.

 The roll was called with 122 members present.

 Rep. E. Peterson was excused on verified illness.

 Reps. Horst and Klein were excused on excused absence by the Speaker.

   Prayer by Chaplain Svoboda:

               The House stood in a moment of silence for Ansel Tobias, Representative from
            1964-1976.

            Loving God,

             As we return from our day

              of rest in remembrance of Martin Luther King, Jr.

               help us to remember

                his struggle for justice

                 and his peaceful resistance.

             May the laws that we enact in this state

              further his dream,

               and bring us closer to Your will for us.

               In Jesus' name we pray.

               Amen.

   The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Rep. O'Neal.

INTRODUCTION OF BILLS AND CONCURRENT RESOLUTIONS
 The following bills were introduced and read by title:

   HB 2638, An act repealing K.S.A. 1999 Supp. 65-6721, concerning partial birth abortion,
by Representative Carmody.

 HB 2639, An act concerning partial birth abortions; amending K.S.A. 1999 Supp. 65-
6721 and repealing the existing section, by Representative Carmody.

COMMUNICATIONS FROM STATE OFFICERS
 From Al LeDoux, Director, Kansas Water Office, water supply contracts negotiated under
the provision of the State Water Plan Storage Act and approved by the Kansas Water Au-
thority during calendar year 1999.

 The complete report is kept on file and open for inspection in the office of the Chief
Clerk.

MESSAGE FROM THE SENATE
 The Senate accedes to the request of the House for a conference on Sub. HB 2322 and
has appointed Senators Ranson, Clark and Barone as conferees on the part of the Senate.

REPORT ON ENGROSSED BILLS
 HB 2607 reported correctly engrossed January 14, 2000.

   On motion of Rep. Glasscock, the House adjourned until 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, January
