Journal of the Senate

SIXTY-EIGHTH DAY
______
Senate Chamber, Topeka, Kansas
Tuesday, May 25 1999--10:00 a.m.
As provided by HCR 5045 the sine die session of the regular 1999 Kansas Senate was
called to order by President Dick Bond.

President Bond introduced as guest chaplain, Lt. Governor Gary Sherrer, who delivered
the invocation:

God, the 1999 Legislative Session is now ending and we pray that our
decisions will touch the people of Kansas in a way that will enhance their
            lives.

We hope we have been influenced not only by the voices we heard, but
also by the needs of those whose voices are seldom heard.

We hope we were motivated to do what was right, not what was expedient,
and that we were driven by good public policy, not by gratuitous politics.

We hope words of anger will be forgiven and words of compassion and
            caring remembered.

We hope we took the issues seriously, but also hope we didn't take
            ourselves too seriously.

We hope in our moments of triumph we knew humility and in our times
            of defeat we knew hope.

Our greatest hope, God, is that before we assemble again you will give us
the strength, will, and knowledge to better serve you, our state, and the people
            of Kansas.

                 Amen.
