Journal of the Senate

ELEVENTH DAY

______

Senate Chamber Topeka, Kansas

Tuesday, January 27, 1998--2:30 p.m.

The Senate was called to order by Vice-President Alicia Salisbury.

The roll was called with forty senators present.

Invocation by Chaplain Fred S. Hollomon:

      Heavenly Father,

The things we tend to worry about

      Seem important at the time

      We worry about the budget . . . . . .

Trying to account for every dime.

We take such pains to look just right

      And keep up with the styles;

      And we really go bananas

If someone messes with our files.

One gray hair will drive us crazy

And if the meal is not on time,

You'd think the waiter or the chef

      Had committed a grievous crime!

Then something happens we didn't expect

      We see an empty chair.

Someone who was close to us

      Suddenly isn't there.

And just as suddenly we find ourselves

With a different view of life

And it occurs to us that it can happen

      to our husband or wife.

Help us, Lord, not have to wait

      Till tragedy comes our way,

      To keep life in perspective

      Every moment of each day.

I pray in the Name of Christ,

      AMEN

GUESTS

Guests of Senator Oleen were pages, Florian Hanne, Gravenwiesbach, Germany, and
Martin Zovic, Bratislava, Slovakia.
