Invocation by Chaplain Fred S. Hollomon:
Heavenly Father,
As we face a new session with all of its challenges and roller coaster days, I am
reminded that one of our poets once said there are only two kinds of people. Not
the rich and the poor. Not the happy and the sad. She went ahead to explain:
`` The kind of people that I mean
Are those who lift and those who lean.''
I understand what the poet was saying, and I agree to a certain extent. . . . . .
It's true if I could have one gift,
It would be to give some folks a lift.
I don't have to be known as strong;
I don't have to be known as swift.
But I would like to be known as one
Who sometimes gave some folks a lift.
However . . . .
There are times when the road is rough
And the days are long and mean,
That I start looking for someone
Who'll give me a shoulder on which to lean.
And it's You I have to thank, O God,
For You're always there it seems
To send someone to be my friend
And give me a shoulder on which to lean.

On behalf of the committee James T. Janousek, Kansas Department of Commerce &
Housing, in conjunction with the Kansas Biological Survey, Kansas Geological Survey, Kan-
sas Department of Wildlife and Parks, and the Kansas Water Office, submitted a report as
required by the 1996 legislature in Section 78 of Senate Bill 757, on the Kansas River
Recreation Study.
DEPARTMENT OF ADMINISTRATION
January 12, 1998
Secretary of Administration, Dan Stanley, as required in K.S.A. 75-37,110, submitted a
report on activities of the Employee Award Board.
KANSAS RURAL DEVELOPMENT COUNCIL
January 12, 1998
Steven G. Bittel, Executive Director, submitted a copy of the 1997 Kansas Rural Devel-
opment Council's Annual Report.
The President announced the above reports are on file in the office of the Secretary of
