Journal of the House

THIRD DAY

______

Hall of the House of Representatives, Topeka, KS,

                                                                          Wednesday, January 14, 1998, 11:00 a.m.

The House met pursuant to adjournment with Speaker Shallenburger in the chair.

The roll was called with 121 members present.

Rep, Lloyd was excused on verified illness.

Reps. Dean, Henderson and Powell were excused on excused absence by the Speaker.

Prayer by Chaplain Washington:

      Heavenly Father,

One Charles Wadsworth was quoted as saying ``Nothing improves a person's hear-
ing as much as praise.'' We thank You today for the many praises and expressions of
gratefulness that we receive, and in some ways Lord, it does enhance our hearing.

Lord, is it possible that praising You somehow enhances Your hearing us? Is that
why the Psalmist said in Psalms 34 that he would praise You at all times . . . that
praise for You would continually be in his mouth?

Lord, we really don't know if it improves our being heard but certainly You are
worthy of all praise. Your mercy toward us, in saving us from what we deserve is
praiseworthy. Your grace toward us, in blessing us with what we don't deserve is
praiseworthy. We praise You for the privilege of prayer and we thank You for Your
      promise to hear.

I come to You in the Name of Christ Jesus, Amen and Amen
