J o u r n a l o f t h e H o u s e FIFTY-THIRD DAY -------- HALL OF THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES TOPEKA, KAN., Friday, March 28, 1997, 9:00 a.m. The House met pursuant to adjournment with Speaker Shallenburger in the chair. Prayer by Chaplain Washington: Heavenly Father, During this weekend, as people are reminded of the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ, would You grant to each of us a time of personal reflection. Lord, all of us are keeping alive some things that need to be crucified. Some of us have habits and attitudes that need to die. In John 12:23-24, Jesus says, that a grain of wheat will abide alone, unless it is buried in the ground and dies. From that death and burial will spring bushels of life and fruitfulness. On this Good Friday it would be good to start crucifying some things. Father, we desire the newness, and productivity that will spring forth from seeing the death of bitterness and resentment, not only in ourselves, but in the lives of our loved ones. Help us to see the burial of some grains of hatred . . . the burial of some pride, selfishness and deceitfulness. During this Easter season, would You resurrect some love in our families? Help us to see the rising of patience with one another and the resurrection of some joy. I come to You in the Name of Jesus. Amen and Amen.
