SENATE RESOLUTION No. 1864
A Resolution congratulating and commending Eric Avery.

� � � WHEREAS,� Eric Avery, a Sophomore at Highland Park High School, To-
peka, has been selected as the Boys and Girls Club Kansas Youth of the Year
2000; and

� � � WHEREAS,� Eric Avery is the recipient of a $25,000 scholarship from
Oprah Winfrey's Angel Network program and will be a guest on her daytime
TV talk show. He also will compete for the Southwest regional title. Five re-
gional winners will compete to be installed as the National Youth of the Year
by President Clinton at a White House ceremony; and

� � � WHEREAS,� Eric Avery has been a member of the Topeka Boys and Girls
Club for seven years. He is the Sophomore class president at Highland Park
High School and president of the Boys and Girls Club Keystone Explorers Club;
and

� � � WHEREAS,� Eric Avery, who is the son of John Avery and Mary Ann Avery,
wants to study premedicine in college but has not decided which college he
will attend; and

� � � WHEREAS,� Eric Avery has honored his family, school, city and state upon
being selected for this award: Now, therefore,

� � � Be it resolved by the Senate of the State of Kansas:�That we congratulate
and commend Eric Avery upon being selected as the Boys and Girls Club
Kansas Youth of the Year 2000 and wish him every success at the regional and
national competition for National Youth of the Year; and

� � � Be it further resolved:�That the Secretary of the Senate be directed to
provide an enrolled copy of this resolution to Eric Avery, 615 S.E. 33rd Street,
Topeka, Kansas 66605.
