  9             AN  ACT concerning wildlife; relating to prohibition of certain birds from
10             this state; amending K.S.A. 32-956 and repealing the existing section.

12       Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Kansas:
13             Section  1. K.S.A. 32-956 is hereby amended to read as follows: 32-
14       956. (a) The secretary shall adopt, in accordance with K.S.A. 32-805 and
15       amendments thereto, rules and regulations concerning the prohibition of
16       certain wildlife from the waters and lands in this state. Such rules and
17       regulations:
18             (1) Shall contain a list consisting of wildlife prohibited;
19             (2) shall provide for certain exemptions concerning the use of such
20       wildlife for an experimental, scientific or display purpose and for the
21       issuance of wildlife importation permits therefor; and
22             (3) may provide for certain exemptions concerning the use of such
23       wildlife for such other purposes as authorized by the secretary under such
24       conditions and restrictions as the secretary deems necessary and for the
25       issuance of wildlife importation permits therefor.
26             (b) A fee may be prescribed for wildlife importation permits pursuant
27       to K.S.A. 32-988 and amendments thereto.
28             (c) Importation and possession of the monk parakeet (Myiopsitta
29       monachus) shall not be prohibited in the state. 
30       Sec.  2. K.S.A. 32-956 is hereby repealed.
31        Sec.  3. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after its
32       publication in the statute book.
