SENATE RESOLUTION No. 1829

A Resolution congratulating and commending the 1999 Goddard High School wrestling team.

      WHEREAS,  The Goddard High School wrestlers are the 1999 Class 5A state wrestling champions. At the
state wrestling meet held in Wichita February 26 and 27, Goddard scored 153 points with Great Bend scoring
130 and Arkansas City scoring 120 points. Goddard's victory ends 11 years of dominance by Arkansas City as
state champion; and

      WHEREAS,  Earlier, the pressure was on Senior Mike Harrington to qualify at the Class 5A regional
wrestling tournament at 215 pounds. His 13-6 win enabled the team to send a wrestler to the state champi-
onships in all 14 weight divisions. The Goddard team and state results are as follows:

Ray Bordwell 103 lbs. 3rd in state
Curtis Bordwell 112 lbs. 4th in state
Jake Earle 119 lbs. 1st in state
Jarod Woodward 125 lbs.
Andy Brine 130 lbs.
Dustin Brown 135 lbs.
Chris Laird 140 lbs.
Justin Moody 145 lbs. 6th in state
Jason Martinez 152 lbs. 5th in state
Jared Lien 160 lbs. 1st in state
Bill Brine 171 lbs. 1st in state
Cody Beard 189 lbs.
Mike Harrington 215 lbs.
Matt Lang 275 lbs. 4th in state

Jared Lien and Bill Brine were repeat champions from 1998, and Bill Brine had an undefeated 1999 season;
and

      WHEREAS,  The Goddard High School wrestling team is coached by Head Coach Randy Lemon, and Assistant Coaches Greg Clamons and Brock Kelley. Team managers are Mary Brewster, Aja Iniguez and Jake
Schuler: Now, therefore,

      Be it resolved by the Senate of the State of Kansas: That we congratulate and commend the Goddard High
School wrestling team, the coaches, faculty, student body, parents and members of this proud community for
the team's winning the 1999 Class 5A wrestling championship; and

   Be it further resolved: That the Secretary of the Senate be directed to provide 20 enrolled copies of this
resolution to Senator Harrington.
