  9             AN  ACT concerning basic breathing screening.

11       Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Kansas:
12             Section  1. (a) As used in this section:
13             (1) "School board" means the governing body of any school;
14             (2) "school" means all elementary and high schools;
15             (3) "basic breathing screening" means pre-exercising and post-exer-
16       cising peak flow meter readings or any other system or method of testing
17       equal or better than such system of testing in the judgment of the school
18       board.
19             (b) Each school board shall provide basic breathing screening without
20       charge to every pupil in its school not less than once every three years,
21       beginning no later than the second grade. All such tests shall be per-
22       formed by a teacher or some other person designated by the school board.
23       The results of the test and, if necessary, the desirability of examination
24       by a qualified physician shall be reported to the parents or guardians of
25       such pupils.
26             (c) The requirements of this section shall not apply to a child who
27       has had a basic breathing screening examination within six months prior
28       to the basic breathing screening examination under subsection (b).
29        Sec.  2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after its
30       publication in the statute book.
