  9             AN  ACT concerning school districts; relating to membership on boards
10             of education; amending K.S.A. 72-7901 and repealing the existing
11             section.

13       Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Kansas:
14             Section  1. K.S.A. 72-7901 is hereby amended to read as follows: 72-
15       7901. (a) The governing body of a unified school district is and shall be
16       a board of education composed of seven (7) members, except as is spe-
17       cifically otherwise provided in K.S.A. 72-5333b, and amendments thereto.
18       The members may be elected by any combination of method of election
19       and voting plan authorized by law, and shall serve for a term of four (4)
20       years.
21             (b) No person who is a professional employee or administrative em-
22       ployee of a unified school district may be a member of the board of edu-
23       cation of the unified school district by which such person is employed.
24       For the purpose of this subsection, the terms professional employee and
25       administrative employee have the meanings respectively ascribed thereto
26       in K.S.A. 72-5413, and amendments thereto.  
27       Sec.  2. K.S.A. 72-7901 is hereby repealed.
28        Sec.  3. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after its
29       publication in the statute book.
