                    SENATE BILL No. 579           By Committee on Judiciary           2-3             9             AN ACT concerning jurors; relating to qualifications; amending K.S.A.
10             43-158 and repealing the existing section.

12       Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Kansas:
13           Section 1. K.S.A. 43-158 is hereby amended to read as follows: 43-
14       158. The following persons shall be excused from jury service: (a) Persons
15       unable to ;(Rx)ad, write, and understand the English language with a degree
16       of proficiency sufficient to fill out respond to a jury questionnaire form
17       prepared by the commissioner;
18           (b) persons under adjudication of incompetency;
19           (c) persons who within ten (10) 10 years immediately preceding have
20       been convicted of or pleaded guilty, or nolo contendere, to an indictment
21       or information charging a felony.
22           Sec. 2. K.S.A. 43-158 is hereby repealed.
23           Sec. 3. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after its
24       publication in the statute book.
