 9  AN ACT concerning corrections; relating to use of the Topeka correc-
10    tional facility; amending K.S.A. 1996 Supp. 75-52,134 and repealing
11    the existing section.

13  Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Kansas:
14    Section 1.  K.S.A. 1996 Supp. 75-52,134 is hereby amended to read
15  as follows: 75-52,134. (a) The part of the Topeka correctional facility
16  which formerly was known as the state correctional-vocational training
17  center at Topeka, Kansas, shall be used to confine or house only female
18  inmates having a custody or security classification of medium or minimum
19  or lower and shall not be used to confine or house such inmates having
20  a maximum custody or security classification either on a permanent or
21  temporary basis.
22    (b)  The housing unit at the Topeka correctional facility constructed
23  pursuant to an appropriation of the 1992 legislature shall be used to house
24  only female inmates, who may be of any custody level. The provisions of
25  this subsection shall not affect the authority of the secretary of corrections
26  to make housing assignments for inmates at other units of the Topeka
27  correctional facility.
28    Sec. 2.  K.S.A. 1996 Supp. 75-52,134 is hereby repealed.
29    Sec. 3.  This act shall take effect and be in force from and after its
30  publication in the statute book.
