Chairperson Barker opened the hearing on SB260.  Jason Long, Revisor, provided an overview of the bill.  It's the Senate mirror version of HB2441 that this committee passed out earlier this session. Chairperson Barker stated that HB2441 passed the House 122-0. 

Chairperson Barker recognized Justin Stowe, Interim Legislative Post Auditor, as a proponent of SB260 (Attachment 1).  Representative Highland had a question.

Chairperson Barker closed the hearing on SB260.

Representative Ruiz moved to suspend the rule and work SB260, seconded by Representative Humphries.  The motion passed

Representative Ruiz moved to recommend SB260 favorably for passage, seconded by Representative Rooker.

Chairperson Barker moved to amend SB260 by changing the bill's effective date from publication in the statute book into publication in the Kansas Registry, seconded by Representative Whitmer.  The amendment passed.

Representative Ruiz moved to recommend SB260, as amended, favorably for passage, seconded by Representative Humphries. SB260, as amended, was favorably passed.

Chairperson Barker advised the Committee that he intended to work HB2398 today, but he understands there is a large amendment being worked on so he will wait and work it tomorrow.  Representative Awerkamp requested that the Committee Assistant provide the Committee with copies of the testimony given last year on this bill since a lot of the members don't have that information. 

There being no further business, the Chairperson adjourned the meeting at 9:15 a.m.
