Minutes for HB2437 - Committee on Federal and State Affairs

Short Title

National day of the cowboy.

Minutes Content for Tue, Jan 23, 2018

Chairperson Barker opened the hearing on HB2437.  Chris Waggoner, Revisor, gave an overview of the bill (Attachment 1).  This bill changes the date of the National Day of the Cowboy from the last Saturday in July to the fourth Saturday in July.  Representative Smith had a question.

Chairperson Barker recognized Representative Steve Becker as a proponent on HB2437 (Attachment 2).  He stated that a mistake was made in the original bill that was passed in 2014.  The National Day of the Cowboy is the fourth Saturday in July, but the bill erroneously stated it was the last Saturday in July.  That wasn't a problem until last summer when July had five Saturdays.  HB2437 simply corrects the day from the last Saturday of July to the fourth Saturday of July.  A question was asked by Representative Miller regarding what the flag looks like.

Chairperson Barker closed the hearing on HB2437 after determining that there were no further conferees.

Representative Highberger moved that the rules be suspended and that HB2437 be worked immediately.  Chairperson Barker asked if there were any objections.  Seeing none, the Chairman ruled that the motion passed.

Representative Highberger moved that HB2437 be recommended favorably for passage and placed on the consent calendar, seconded by Representative Whtimer.  Seeing no discussion, a vote was taken and the motion passed with the recommendation the bill be placed on the consent calendar.
