Minutes for SB166 - Committee on Education

Short Title

Exempting Cleveland university-Kansas City from the private and out-of-state postsecondary educational institution act.

Minutes Content for Tue, Mar 14, 2017

Chairperson Dierks opened the hearing on SB166 and asked staff to give an overview of the bill.

Zack Fridell gave a brief description of the bill. (Attachment 7)

Matt Lindsey explained that Kansas educational institutions require ongoing approval of all policy changes from the Board of Regents. Cleveland University, a chiropractic college, has a charter in Missouri but works entirely in Kansas and the double reporting causes increased costs and time spent administratively to run the college. (Attachment 8)

Dr. Gery Hochanadel was welcomed to the Committee and shared the history of Cleveland Chiropractic. He asked that this fine school be exempted from the educational institution act.

There were no opponents or neutral testimony.

Representatives Crum, Dietrich, and Sutton asked questions.

Chairperson Dierks closed the hearing on SB166 as there were no further conferees.
