Chairperson LaTurner opened the hearing on SB 98.

Senator Molly Baumgardner stated that SB 98 allows us to assure any woman intending to have an abortion in Kansas has pertinent information about the licensed individual that is scheduled to perform the abortion.(Attachment 1)

Kathy Ostrawski said that SB 98 is narrow in focus, but she does support the bill.  Kansas Department of Health and Environment has not printed books on elective surgery.  Abortion can be done over the phone.(Attachment  2)

Steve Brunk also supports SB 98 and said it was a common sense bill.  There was safety and transparency present in the bill. (Attachment  3)

Bob Eye spoke in opposition to SB 98.  He stated that the United States Supreme Court asks if there is a health benefit, if not then could be stricken. (Attachment  8)

Elise Higgins spoke in opposition to SB 98.  She stated that SB 98 does nothing to improve the health of Kansas women. (Attachment  9)

Dr. Carol Joy Darrah opposes SB 98 because it proposes amendments to the Women's right-to-know Act that are scientifically unfounded(Attachment 10).
