The chair opened the hearing on HB2646.
Jason Long gave an overview of the bill. The bill would expand the recipients eligibility to receive financial assistance under the Kansas Hero's Scholarship Act. It details who would be eligible for the scholarship. (Attachment 9)
Dr. Blake Flanders, President and CEO of the Kansas Board of Regents, spoke in favor of the bill. He stated the bill would make the AT easier to administer and benefit service members' spouse and dependents. It would open benefits to those whose deaths or disabilities occurred prior to September 11, 2001. (Attachment 10)
