The Chair opened the hearing on SB359.
Adam Siebers, Assistant Revisor, Office of the Revisor of Statutes, briefed the Committee on the bill (Attachment 1). He said the bill provides a new distinctive Kansas City Chiefs license plate. Subject to the 250 initial plate commitment and payment of up to $5000, initial registrations and subsequent renewals would be made through the county treasurer. An annual logo use fee of $25 up to $100 would be determined by the Kansas City Chiefs Football Club with the fees going to the Hunt Family Foundation. A member requested a complete list of distinctive license plates.
Senator Kellie Warren, District 11, testified as a proponent. She reviewed the requirements for the plate, noted the unifying effect of having a Chiefs plate, and identified the apportioned direction for the fees. Responding to a question, she replied that the Chiefs must approve the logo and will work with the agency in designing the plate (Attachment 2).
