Short Title
Providing for the detachment and transfer of fire district property annexed by a city.

Revisor Long briefed the committee on the bill (Attachment 25). He stated that this bill would provide that the transfer of property occur on approval of an agreement as stated under current law or one year from the date of the annexation, whichever occurs first.
Jeff DeGraffenreid, Fire Chief, City of Olathe, testified as a proponent to this bill (Attachment 26). He explained that this bill provides developers in annexed areas a clear understanding of the fire protection and service provider going forward. In addition, it encourages early dialogue between cities and fire districts in the negotiation process.
