Chairperson Longbine began the meeting by recognizing Senator Kloos for a point of privilege.  He introduced his guest for the day, Connor, from Lyndon, Kansas.  Senator Holscher was also recognized for a point of privilege.  She introduced two young ladies, Ellie Bustamente and Piper from the Accelerated School in Overland Park, Kansas, who were Pages for her today. 

 

The Chairperson opened the hearing on SB85.  Eileen Ma, Assistant Revisor, Kansas Revisor of Statutes Office (ROS) presented a bill brief and stood for questions.  There were none.   (Attachment 1) 

Michael Byrne, on behalf of US Travel Insurance Association (UStiA) presented oral proponent testimony.  He told the Committee that this legislation is important because it would create a framework specifically to regulate travel insurance.  (Attachment 2)  Mr. Byrne mentioned that 29 states have already enacted this legislation.  Senator Pittman asked Mr. Byrne if the legislation was identical to SB85.  Mr. Byrne responded that it was substantively the same in all 29 states.

Seeing there were no more questions, and no other proponent, opponent, or neutral testimony submitted, Chairperson Longbine closed the hearing on SB85, then opened the hearing on SB44.
