Chairperson Patton opened the hearing on HB2065. Natalie Scott provided an overview of the bill. (Attachment 1) She stood for questions.
Proponent
Honorable Judge Sally Pokorny, on behalf of the Kansas Bar Association, (Attachment 2) stated they are in support of HB2065 allowing a court to change a spouse's name to a name that is different than a maiden or former name during a divorce proceeding. She explained currently requiring the extra step of filing a name change petition is not an efficient use of either spouses time, nor is it in the interest of judicial economy. Judge Pokorny asked the membership for their support of HB2065.
