Jason Thompson presented a bill brief on SB56 explaining that it requires the posting of a human trafficking awareness notice approved by the Attorney General in certain businesses and public places.(Attachment 1)

Adam Proffitt submitted the fiscal note for SB56.(Attachment 2)

Jennifer Montgomery spoke in support of SB56 stating human trafficking appears nationwide and exists in Kansas both as labor and sexual trafficking. She stated, since the inception of the National Human Trafficking Hotline, 246,000 contacts have been made nationally via telephone and texts. In Kansas, tips are investigated by the Kansas Bureau of Investigation. (Attachment 3)

Sharon Sullivan spoke in support of SB56 stating this is a very easy way to help those who are being victimized and ultimately it will reduce trafficking in our state. She noted the cost of the posters is already covered by the Attorney General's office. (Attachment 4)
