Discontinuing apportionment of countywide retailers' sales tax imposed for general purposes between the county and cities located therein.

Minutes Content for Thu, Mar 12, 2020

Chairperson Johnson opened the hearing and recognized Adam Siebers, Assistant Revisor, who provided an overview on HB2656.   He noted the bill provides that starting on July 1, 2020, the general purpose authority of the countywide retailers' sales tax up to 1.0% would be retained by the county and not distributed pursuant to the distribution formula between the counties and cities and other governmental units (Attachment 1).

In response to a question, Kathleen Smith, Department of Revenue, commented the general use tax would affect 82 counties and does not affect the counties who do not have a countywide sales tax.
